JOHAN TAHON, THE WILD CLASSICAL MUSIC ENSEMBLE & LEE RANALDO

Dieu Fleuve, 2010 I Polar Holes, 2025 I Hell Gate, 2019

Johan Tahon didn’t become a sculptor, he always was one and always be one. For him, sculpting is like breathing. At a young age, he discovered that objects can bring lightness to the weight of existence. Restless and drawn to the unspeakable, he pushes at the edges of the big unknown.

Dieu Fleuve symbolises the River God–a never-ending cosmic stream that flows deep down within all of us. It refers to a life force, constantly in motion. In the adjacent space stands a solemn ceramic figure, withdrawn in philosophical solitude–silent, contemplative, immersed in a deep reflection on existence.

For Hell Gate, Johan Tahon collaborated with The Wild Classical Music Ensemble and Lee Ranaldo. The Wild Classical Music Ensemble is a unique, inclusive band that emerged years ago within Wit.h vzw. For the 2020 art expedition Blood Test, Johan brought them together with New York guitarist Ranaldo, placing them in the sculptural world of his studio–a residency in his art studio, or a musical journey through the gates of hell.
