In 2007, Irène Gérard arrived at La ” S ” Grand Atelier – Centre d’ Art Brut et Contemporain in Vielsalm after working for years in a sheltered workshop. She quickly made her mark as an original portraitist through the way she composes her subjects. The bodies in her figurative work appear fractured, broken pieces glued back together, reminiscent of stained-glass windows.
