Ronny Engelen is always searching for new images that speak to him in one way or another: urban landscapes, village views, specific birds or other animals, farms… He needs a sense of familiarity with his subjects. In his drawings, he combines the most diverse things into a new kind of reality–then adds a wonderful sense of alienation through introducing ever so subtle distortions and playing with the dynamic between the images. The artist himself is as colourful as his drawings, favouring striking accessories–hats, rings on every finger. He loves travelling and fishing, and these passions often reappear in his work. Ronny has been drawing since he was four. He lives next door to Kunsthuis Yellow Art and works there every day.
