As an architectural engineer, Roland van Eck felt stifled–his creativity had no outlet. He enrolled in photography studies at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and did an internship with fashion photographer Paul de Graaff. Then chronic illness forced him to change course. Since 2022, he has been working at Galerie Atelier Herenplaats in Rotterdam. In his portrait series Now Everything is Different, Roland breaks with old patterns.

Nowadays, “outsiders” wear a miller's collar with pride.
