PHILIPPE VANDENBERG

Philippe Vandenberg Foundation Brussels

After an eventful international career, the Belgian artist Philippe Vandenberg chose to end his life on 29 June 2009. His three children established the Philippe Vandenberg Foundation, which continues to preserve his legacy and promote his work on the international stage.

Philippe Vandenberg’s art carries a raw urgency that evokes deeply layered emotions. Throughout his career, he developed a distinctive approach to colour, text and form.

LETTER FROM PHILIPPE VANDENBERG TO SYLVAIN COSIJNS
Voice: Dominique Van Malder

In 2002, Philippe Vandenberg wrote a letter to Sylvain Cosijns. With poetic precision, he reflected on the life of an artist in general, and on Sylvain’s seclusion in particular: “Now I write you this letter, a letter you will never read, because language for you was superfluous and so it never grew. Besides, what can words really add to a painting?”

For Crip Stories, the two artists are reunited.

Letter to Sylvain

Now I am writing this letter that you will never read.
