LARA BREINE AND LIEN ANCKAERT
In collaboration with Jonas Bruyneel, 2025
Why are female artists so absent from art history? Why are women more often muses than makers? Lien Anckaert and Lara Breine regularly share a studio. Lien draws, and Lara records their conversations about ethical questions. Are female artists different from male artists? Is there an equal voice? And how does society view this?
Lien often explores sexuality in her texts and drawings. Lara fills pages with fragments of dialogue, transforming them into visual language. In their working process, the feminine energies of Camille Claudel, Frida Kahlo and Louise Bourgeois compet with the masculine authority of François Boucher, Fernand Botero and Umberto Eco. Together, Lara and Lien present their version of the Eros-Thanatos theme: eroticism and death. The story of the beginning and ending of life.
